Happy New Year! Fantastic post (love the map graph, too) - it really is interesting when you start learning about other countries and how they are doing things, makes on scratch their heads in amazement!!

Your meals that you put together over there sound brilliant - am sure you both had a wonderful time!

And to have a flat with a kitchen to make your local meals in... that's the way to go. Congratulations.
Welcome home.

Wow, what a great graphic to show just how different a "local zone" can be in Europe. I'm impressed at how much "organic" means over there - that is one of the things that bothers me most about the regulations over here in the States; one never knows what you are going to get when something says organic unless you are dealing directly with the farmer and can ask him/her.

And the farmers guidelines too - wow. Do you know how much the British government has to do with all of this? Is it something pushed by the citizenry? I wonder because of the awareness-raising efforts here, it seems to be more of a struggle to have those with regulatory power pay attention to the issues of agriculture, food sustainability, etc....

Lucky you to have such active markets even in the winter. Brussels sprouts are a favorite for me.
