[...] It has been pretty fun telling people that Dave got me beans for Valentine’s. Yes beans. But he knows me too well because I have been eyeing Rancho Gordo from afar, and I finally get to see what all the fuss is about! [...]

Joan: I thought the pancetta I was using -- which was rather fatty -- might render enough fat, but it didn't get going quickly enough for my taste, so I splashed at bit of oil in (as the recipe called for) and it sizzled right up.

Just out of curiosity, how much olive oil did you use? I just made a guess and tried to use as little as possible while still having enough to properly cook the onions and celery. It's still cooking, so I don't know yet what the results will be.

Eighty degrees? (sob) Are you kidding me? I would have been all over the strawberries!

But that's just because I'm currently looking at six months of kale.

When am I coming down next?:-)

I still think it's funny that in 80+ weather we still chose to do a stereotypically Nov meal. Thank you SO much for this weekend - I enjoyed every single minute and the food was amazing!

When you make it up our way next you must spend a night or two up at the farm. We'll have dinner at Bistro San Martin and cook up a storm.

As for Steve's book, I'm still kicking myself that I didn't just buy it and have him sign it on the spot. It's gorgeous and the recipes all sound scrumptious. I'm off to order my copy now.
