Hey, I’ve been drinking Monte Carlo’s for years now, found the recipe in a Esquire Magazine drink Book from 1935. It says to garnish with a marischino [sp] cherry. It adds a nice touch.

I like this drink. It’s simple and sippable, but I prefer mine in an after-dinner configuration: neat in a short rocks glass.

The Museum of the American Cocktail Pocket Recipe Guide (page 49) calls this drink a “Derby” with modestly different proportions.

I wish I had the cojones to drink a cocktail like that! We get up to SF about once a year and I’ll be eager to try Beretta.
