saw this post amidst your nopalito review, and proceeded to read this ravenously. nothing makes me happier than mexican food, even the mere thought of it perks me up! i will definitely run with some of these suggestions. i’m always on a quest for chilaquiles, even if they are less than stellar since they’re not all that commonplace (unless i’ve been looking in all the wrong places?). and i took a taco truck trek out to oakland once, too! but it was saturday and i assumed there weren’t many out. seems like i clearly was not trying hard enough because it sounds like you hit the motherload on a sunday! you’ve inspired me to try again. thanks!

wow! a weekend full of mexican food… yum! i enjoy a good breakfast at los jarritos but i’m still looking for a place with tasty chilaquiles. i just found your blog and love it… thanks! i might have to hit up tacubaya for lunch.

Sean: At least you have San Buena near your office. I have Andale and Rubio’s. :S (And yes, I did consider hopping on BART and riding across the bay to Fruitvale just for lunch, right after I posted this.)

Cookie: We thought it had a certain storybook quality.

Jan: When you come down, we’ll go to Lisa’s. You’ll dig it the most.

Sarah: Glad to give you a starting list. Expat life must be brutal for all those things you just cannot get.

Erin: Hm, downtown SJ’s a bit of a haul for us, but it sounds promising. Next time we’re that far south, we’ll keep it in mind.

Tartlette: When you come visit, we’ll go to whichever one sounds good. And we’re even: There’s no good southern food in SF.

Tea: I am sad to report that Burrito Loco used to be the only decent place for sit-down Mexican food in your fair city, but it closed about 6 months before you moved north. There’s another Burrito Loco out on Holman Road in the North Ballard / Greenwood diagonal that’s OK, but the UVillage location was actually good enough to cure cravings.

If you’re sending pasta and cocktails, please throw in an order of chong-gin chicken from Szechuan Chef, and a burger from Palace.

RockDD: Please help Tea find good Mexican for me, will ya? Tell Carla or Mamster to introduce you two.

After reading this I feel full!
I love Primavera (as you know) and Tacubya. They have a salad on the menu with pumpkin seeds that I could eat every day for the rest of my life.

Can you please send Mexican food? I’ll reciprocate with Lago pasta and Zig Zag cocktails.

You can’t eat in the Bay area unless you go to La Victoria in San Jose on 4th st. right next to the Jack in the Box. Make sure you try thier “orange sauce” and you can even take a bottle home with you. Seriously though, this place is my favorite and a local secret. You will be hooked if you try it!

This post was worse than water torture for me – I miss the Bay Area, and definitely Mexican food! The Mexican food in Italy is definitely not up to par. I can’t wait until my trip back in July…I see “themed” weekends like yours in my future. Thanks for some addresses!
