[...] Thanks to Sandy Gluck from Martha Stewart Living Radio’s Everyday Food for the shout-out on our Tomato-Bourbon Jam. It’s still a little early for tomatoes, but if you’ve got hothouse tomatoes at your farmers market, as we do, this is one place where they do pretty well. [...]

I make this, too, but I use the lazy man's method: I just quarter whole washed tomatoes and throw them in a pot and cook them. Once they're soft, I run them through a food mill to remove the skin and most of the seeds. Then I add the vinegar, sugar, and spices and cook it until it's thick. You can can it – it keeps well.

We no longer keep ketchup in the house. This stuff is great on burgers, and even better on a grilled cheddar sandwich.

Hey there,

this is a real gourmet pickle here. Wow, i am amazed how creative you are. I myself am hosting an event that is dedicated to giving food as a present. I would love you to have a look and maybe you could come up with something? http://www.burntmouth.com/2007/10/spoonful-of-christmas.html

what a glorious version of plain tomato sauce! i have never tried making ketchup myself, but i will with this recipe... fantastic. i wonder if the bourbon will evaporate enough for it to be safe for the children to eat? well, if not, that'll be a quiet afternoon for me then ;-)
