Fantastic! Last night Paul and I were talking about the differences in alcohol contents in wines. It really does make a difference - especially if you are at a wine dinner with a different pairing for each course. I'm so pleased you were immersed in the magic of low-alcohol Italian wines. It may surprise you to see me effuse so over them, but we have often enjoyed the lightness and delicacy of the wines there, with the added benefit of not getting schnockered before the entree. And true to your cohort's comments, the vino locale -- typically wine made by the restaurateur or his nonna -- is almost always the best ... and cheapest! Certo! I ate at Babbo after getting engaged in Washington Square Park two years ago, and I still have dreams about that meal. So glad you had a good time! I'm sure you have a list a mile long of restaurants to try, but a few of my recent favs in NY (all with bar seats): Pearl Oyster Bar (West Village), The Spotted Pig (West Village), 'inoteca (LES), and Taboon (upscale middle eastern in Hell's Kitchen). Some don't even take resos, so I think you'll be okay, esp. if you eat on the late side! swoon. I am so jealous!
