I agree -- my favs for a g & t are Tanqueray and Plymouth. Tanq has the oomph needed and Plymouth has a slightly more complicated flavor. I think Bombay sapphire is too smooth for a g & t

Hi Aaron (or can I call you Ann?):
Perhaps you overlooked the About page, where we talk about our ban on self-promotional comments? Does Moosylvania have an ethics policy? I didn't think so.

Sapphire -- lovely gin though it is -- makes a tremendously terrible G&T. You want a gin with some bite to it for this drink. Save the top-shelf gins for martinis, kids.

Bombay Sapphire makes the best G&T. It's more balanced than some of the other gins.

They were offering house-made tonic at Burb'n'Branch the other night, too. Must be the hip new thing...

Given how much bergamot juice I have in the freezah, I might try <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" title="mad scientist makes tonic" href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/27/AR2005062700572.html" rel="nofollow">this route</a>. Must search for a seltzer bottle, now...

At Park Kitchen in Portland, we had a g & t made with house-made tonic. The bartender makes it using quinine bark. It was by far the best g & t I've ever had. If anyone comes across a recipe for this, I'd love to have it.

You'll pay for it if you use rotgut, but the key to this drink is the tonic, not the gin. Buy the little bar bottles so that you always have fresh. If you can lay your hands on Schweppes Indian Tonic (it ain't easy), it's worth the extra effort.
